Are you ready for an amazing spicy cajun shrimp recipe? You won’t regret it!

You don’t always have to drink your coffee – you can eat it too! Coffee makes for a great ingredient in seasoning rubs. It gives the food a nice smoky flavor. So, in honor of National Coffee Day, here is some spicy, cajun coffee shrimp using my “Cup of Joe” southwest seasoning rub.

And best thing about rubs is that you can always customize to your liking – adding more or less of a certain ingredient. Translation – it’s easy for you to be creative!

Eating shrimps more than twice a week can be very healthful. It has a variety of health benefits because it’s full of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidant astaxanthin and iodine.

You’ll want to start by placing all ingredients for the Cup o’ Joe rub in a blender. Add coffee beans, smoked paprika, cumin, coconut sugar, cayenne and allspice and blend until coffee beans are semi-blended. Be careful with the coffee, it can be too strong and spoil the taste.

Cover shrimps with 1.5 tablespoon of the rub and olive oil by your hands to ensure every shrimp is fully covered. Set your favorite skillet to medium-high heat. Add olive oil and shrimps, then stir. Make sure shrimps are not sticking to the skillet and both sides are cooked equally. Season with sea salt and pepper.

Cook until the shrimp turn pink. When it’s fully cooked, take out and serve. Garnish with parsley and lemon juice. Eat while still hot with a fresh salad or make cajun shrimp pasta.

Voila! You have yourself a great low calorie meal that will impress even your family and friends. Download the Fitmen app for more seafood quick and easy recipes that fit into your healthy diet plan. Enjoy, my fit foodies!

Cajun Shrimp With Coffee

Ingredients

* Optional Substitution Note
  • 1lb jumbo shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • sea salt & pepper to taste
  • olive oil spray
  • Cup o’ Joe Rub (makes ~11 servings)
    • 1/4 cup coffee beans
    • 1.5 tablespoon smoked paprika
    • 1 teaspoon cumin
    • 1.5 tablespoon coconut sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cayenne
    • 1teaspoon allspice
  • Garnish:
    • parsley
    • lemon

Steps

Step 1

Place the ingredients for the Cup o’ Joe rub in a high-powered blender or food processor. Pulse blend until the coffee beans are semi-blended, yet still somewhat coarse. Taste the blend to ensure it is to your liking – add more or less of certain ingredients so that you get it just right for you. Go easy on the coffee though since it can be overpowering!

Step 2

Season the shrimp with about 1.5 tablespoon of the rub and add olive oil. Mix it together using your hands and ensure all of the shrimp has been covered in the seasoning. Add a few pinches of sea salt & pepper.

Step 3

Set a skillet on medium high heat and spray with olive oil. When the skillet is hot, toss in the shrimp. Stir it with a spatula to ensure the shrimp is not sticking to the skillet and to ensure that both sides of the shrimp are cooked. While the shrimp is cooking, add a few more pinches of sea salt & pepper.

Step 4

Cook until the shrimp is completely cooked, usually when it has turned pink. Garnish with parsley and lemon juice and serve immediately. They go great with salads!
